Peter Hackshaw - vocals
Founding member of Retrofin with Dean, Pete hails from
Barking, Essex and now lives in Hornchurch. Descended
from a line of urly burly pearly East End pub
piano players, he was taught piano at a young age by
his great grandmother (God rest her soul), but has never
been able to read music.
The first album that made him want
to be in a band was 'Fear of the Dark' by Iron Maiden,
which a friend copied for him on cassette and literally
got worn out from being played so often.
He then began his journey into music and found
inspiration in albums such as; Nevermind
(Nirvana), Strange Days (The Doors), Siamese
Dream (Smashing Pumpkins) and a stolen
vinyl of 'Rolled Gold' (a Rolling Stones comp).
Pete was bought a copy of a Fender guitar at the age of
12 and formed a school band with Tony Lewis (original
Retrofin drummer)...
Later, Pete and Tony played in a band with Johnny
Rocker of Roadstar/Hurricane Party and at some point,
he discovered the music of Billy Idol, decided to drop the
guitar (which frankly he was never that good at) and
concentrate on being a frontman; ...with the space to dive
into the audience at any given moment and generally
climb things...
Pete would like to meet; Ollie Reed,
Henry VIII, Billy Idol and Serj Tankian.
Fact; Road To Ruin actually began as a song on the
piano, which Pete never intended for the band, as he
thought they would hate it.
